Four years ago you could watch (read) any major news media outlet and get pretty much the same story. Not any more. There is an extreme bias now.
You have to shop several outlets to get all the facts. You have to browse cable, network, radio and web news stories to get to the bottom of anything.
Competition and free enterprise are fine and good, but when the media becomes commercialized to this extent it’s outrageous. Not just “commercialized” with seventy times seven adverts every hour. Commercialized as in being owned and controlled by media moguls and boards of directors who sell the news to specific audiences.
Bias is no longer limited to the editorial page in newspapers or point blank commentary by TV pundits with specific, known affiliations. Bias has spread like a plague to every aspect of news coverage.
I guess each media outlet knows their audience, and competition has forced them to tailor their news to that audience. If they offend their loyal readers, the readers will go elsewhere and bring their advertising dollars with them.
Fox News is for white conservatives. CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and Reuters are for minorities and liberals.
Funny, but I never thought blacks and Hispanics read that much. They certainly don’t vote the issues. They are both traditionally quite conservative in their values, but they’re staunch supporters of extreme liberals now.
That’s a new kind of racism – extreme self pride and racial identification. At least white folks vote the issues, regardless of any racial perspective. Blacks and Hispanics wear binders, and how. Better a “medium information voter” than a “low or no information voter.”
We need to license media outlets like we do utilities. Only then can journalists do their job and report the news the way they’re trained to do.
Otherwise were all just farm animals knee deep in our own slop muddling around on George Orwell’s farm.
