Evangelicals Support Amnesty for Illegals

The Christian Science Monitor reports a growing trend among evangelicals to support immigration reform.  Since evangelicals are a significant block of the GOP they could assert considerable influence in Washington, especially given Obama’s determination to tackle the issue in his second term.

" Illegal's money is as good as anybody's ! "

Evangelicals cite immigration as a religious freedom, referring to many historical immigrations described in the Old Testament.  They have more legal and illegal immigrants in their congregations and have heard their sob stories.  They are sympathetic and want to show charity and brotherly love to the illegals.

What about charity toward the 20 million Americans out of work?  What about the dozens of laws the illegal immigrants have broken to get here and to live among us?  Illegals have bankrupted school districts, hospitals, emergency rooms, and our entire entitlement infrastructure.

Of course, it all comes down to the collection plate.  20 million Americans who are un- or under-employed don’t give to the church.

The Hispanic population has actually been extremely prosperous during this economy, faring better than ever.  Half of all new jobs created in America in the last four years have been in Texas.

It’s enough to make a God fearing man into an atheist.

Almost.
