This is the gripping story of a seasoned detective who struggles to follow his intuition. Everything in our “modern” culture acts against him. We are so data-driven, so scientific, so “civilized” – our lives are so shallow, and our emotions are so superficial that we cannot even trust our “gut” instincts.
People who are in touch with their emotions are “psychics” with “powers” that we disparage and belittle. They might as well be Jesus raising people from the dead, as dead as our emotions are to us.
But alas, God is dead. Faith is a four letter word. You see it in the headlines every day. The atheists are on a roll! Religion is politically incorrect. Football players who pray before a game – well, they can’t. The ones who still do so are ridiculed on national TV shows, 6 o’clock news programs and by our most respected leaders.
We can’t even conjure the faith to get in touch with our own emotions. We can’t access the deeper processes of our brains that manipulate information faster than the speed of light into “psychic” intuition.
It takes a little girl who is abducted to drive this aging detective to go beyond a lifetime of indoctrination, past the forensics, the formalities and the facts – to go beyond what is seen and known to what connects the dots.
Pity it takes a crisis to find his humanity.
