Facebook and The Demise of Personality

Social media is so ubiquitous in Japan that 50% of young adults of both sexes there have never had sex, never want to have sex and prefer virtual friends to real ones.

The birth rate in Japan is so low now that the entire race will be extinct in 300 years.

Young people much prefer to communicate via social media.  As a result their social skills are so poor they can no longer form relationships.  They vent their biological needs by having casual sex with friends.

Even young kids spend so much time in front of the TV at home that they are incapable of resolving personal conflicts at school.  Their teachers (or principals) must do that for them.  They no longer play outside with their peers after school or on weekends, where important relationship skills are learned.

Eighty percent of communication takes place via body language.  Kids learn their body language from reality TV shows where every syllable is scripted; from gay male actors pretending to be straight; from female leads thinking only of where they’ll get their next drug fix from or what rock star they’ll be bedding next.

From politicians who are all so anal retentive their body language is a blank slate.

Young people learn their body language from parents who didn’t want them in the first place and who can’t wait for them to grow up and move out of the house.  From teachers who teach to the standardized tests and to the slowest student in the class.

From little league coaches who want only to win.

Team Obama set the standard for using social media in an election.  Text your campaign contributions.  Pity $16 of the $20 you scraped together will be spent on lavish parties for wealthy contributors.

Oh, did you see Lena Dunham’s fab video saying voting for Obama is better than losing your virginity?

Too bad you don’t learn until the act itself how painful it is.

Better get used to it.  The pain has only just begun.
