“Keep the Merry and Dump the Myth” reads a giant billboard in Times Square. The top panel has an image of Santa Claus. The bottom has an image of Christ on the Cross. The billboard was paid for by activist atheists.
They always crawl out of the woodwork this time of year.
Maybe people will get the message. Maybe they will stop thinking of Christmas as a materialistic extravaganza, a global competition to out-give the Joneses.
We should see how important education is, when morons spend their good money trying to disparage all hope and good will in the world. Maybe folks will give fewer toys and sock away more money for their kid’s college education. Focus on what is really important – family, faith, education and prosperity.
Jesus was no myth. Even if you take away the miracles and the risen Christ after the Crucifixion, there still remains a great man – if anything a greater man. Indeed, a mortal Jesus who sacrificed himself to die a gruesome death on the Cross is an even more powerful image than the Son of God who knew damn well he would survive this.
Scholars have spent two thousand years studying the words of Christ. Nobody anywhere has yet found any inconsistency, any irrelevancy or any untrue wisdom. That’s as much a miracle as the physical miracles written of in the gospels.
There are dozens more gospels, written by Thomas, Mary and many others. Dump the myth and you still have a vast collection of spiritual wisdom the likes of which the world has never seen. Another miracle, one that not even atheists can deny.
Two thousand years ago as today, the arrogant, the crude and the uncivilized cretins of society continue to disparage humanity, so aptly represented by Jesus who was and is all that we aren’t but could be.
Then, as now, they still deliver Jesus to the cross. He suffers as much now as ever.
Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.
