The far left “progressive” wing of the Democrat party establishes their baseline: socialism. Progressive democrats are a moving target, though.
They have no fixed point of reference, so they keep moving farther to the left, toward true communism. Having the most liberal member of Congress ever as president, and a very activist and energetic one at that, constantly moves the progressive goalposts further into the end zone, Marxism.
The far right of the conservative movement has traditionally been the evangelicals. Increasingly, they are being liberalized. Even Southern Baptists support gay marriage, along with all the other stalwart denominations.
Catholics used to be rock solid people, but now they are overwhelmed by the Hispanic population. Catholic leaders in California frequently side with illegal immigrants on issues of citizenship and their legality of being here.
Joe Biden is a Catholic – Joe Biden the ardent supporter of gay marriage, abortion and even forcing abortion on Catholic institutions.
Clearly, the conservatives of today have moved far toward the left of Ronald Reagan’s day.
Increasingly there is even a distinction made between Republicans and Conservatives. Speaker Boehner has pulled the Republican brand far to the left, and he’s removed many staunch conservatives from influential committees on the hill.
Rush Limbaugh compensates somewhat, but he’s just a fat radio commentator.
The problem with this phase shift of Republicanism is that nobody defines the far right. The far left is defined by Marxism. That’s the endzone all liberals strive for, their mecca, their nirvana. There is no equivalent for the right.
Even the staunchest conservatives are forced by the media to be politically correct, thus driving them slowly but surely toward the center.
What’s a middle-of-the-road American to do, just to keep from going insane, or being consumed by stress, angst, ulcers and migraines? Personally, when I read about something that’s so morally or ethically wrong, so at odd with the facts, I fire up the computer and vent.
Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t give a damn what people think.
