The general consensus is that women vote Democrat because in a down economy they fear losing their jobs and the consequences of that on raising their kids. The Democrat nanny state, women assume, will be there for them in the form of welfare and child support and food stamps and free medical care and the hundreds of other government programs out there for the poor and indigent.
Women look at the Republicans’ goal of smaller government and see all those programs disappearing. Conservatives have such a single-minded obsession with shrinking the government, it terrifies women that the safety net won’t be there if and when they might need it.
This whole scenario assumes that women are single and that they have zero resources to lean on in lean times. It assumes they have no savings, no church group to help them, no family, or grandparents or aunts or uncles; no community support.
It assumes they will not get any help from a husband or from an ex’s child support. It assumes that women haven’t even bothered to foster any of these support networks. It assumes that living in a smaller house, driving an older car and not dining out 20 times a week is the end of the world.
85% of black children are born to single mothers. These women assume the government will be there in the form of a hundred programs to pay them cash to raise and educate and feed and nurse their children. The spectre of any cutbacks in any government programs is horrifying.
Ditto for hispanic mothers. The entire hispanic culture is based on the premise that men leave their families and go to America to make money that they send back home. Men are always gone. The mere suggestion that the government could be gone too, is frightening to the extreme.
A strict Republican regime will deprive their families of – well, everything. Even legal hispanics fear this as the support of indigent families and children will fall upon them in the bad times.
None of these mothers could care less that 40% of the money given to them is borrowed from China at a 5% interest rate. They can calculate the math of providing for their children down to the last red cent.
The macroeconomic math of running the nation isn’t something they care about or worry about. The notion that a healthy economy equals more secure jobs equals more independence and security for each worker and less dependence on a bankrupt government is beyond them.
For blacks, America owes it to them. It’s payback for slavery and discrimination and for sending so many black men to prison. “Vote for revenge,” was Obama’s closing argument.
Hispanics have earned their welfare benefits too by working low wage jobs year after year. It’s our fault that these working illegals had to live in abject poverty because they sent all their wages back to their families in Mexico.
The welfare state has fostered a generation of minority mothers who are married to the government in every way. They depend on government for everything fathers are supposed to provide – money, contraception, medical care, kindness, charity and conjugal love. Then when the government threatens to impose the single most important thing a father or husband can provide, discipline, these women freak out and cry havoc.
The worse insult of all is that Republicans would deny them “reproductive health.”
They have a civil right to have sex whenever they damn well want to have sex!
And the government has an obligation to pay all the expenses to raise their illegitimate children.
