It’s downright refreshing to see a movie (again) where the fags are “sissies” and the evil homosexual district attorney who “swishes” is gay as a two dollar bill. Gays were perverts back then. They weren’t glorified with a badge of honor like they are now.
The bad guys are just that, and the cops are bad too. They enforce the law with brutal force. They brow beat suspects who give them lip. They shoot the ones who deserve it.
We also see Hollywood for what it really is in this film. We see Tinseltown as a ruthless meat factory with the run of the town. They manipulate young hopefuls, use them, destroy them from the inside out, then throw them away.
We live in a brutal, violent society. Excessive laws have sissified law enforcement to the point where cops can’t do their job, and criminals know it.
I guess the days are gone when cops wear white shirts, thin black ties and sports coats. Goodbye romance too; beautiful damsels in distress, chivalry and good manners.
We’ve become a rude, insensitive, shallow society. Even the bad guys back then wouldn’t recognize our absence of humanity.
We’ve become sissified.
