Profiling the Low Information Voter

If you followed the election drama at all you may have noticed an odd disconnect between what you heard Obama say and what everybody else heard.

Over and again, Obama would say something that offended you no end, yet his poll numbers kept on improving.  You had the distinct impression that he was “speaking with forked tongue” and that your literal interpretation of his words were at distinct odds with what he was saying to his base.

" Vote for me and I guarantee you unlimited welfare, food stamps, free college... "
” Vote for me and I guarantee you unlimited welfare, food stamps, free college… “

Thus was born, courtesy of Rush Limbaugh, the notion of the “low information voter.”  This is not a stupid person, just a person who is clueless about politics.  Somebody who failed civics class in high school, who never reads the papers, who has no investments to keep him interested in the stock market, someone who doesn’t save for college or retirement.

People who don’t think about the cost of raising children before having them.  People who believe free health  care is a civil right.  People who think of abortion as “reproductive health.”

Fox News interviewed the president of some top-tier university last week.  I was flabbergasted when they said the average level of education of blacks admitted to college is the 8th grade.  Blacks are already four years behind the norm when they enter a four-year college.  I guess that means they graduate from college with the equivalent of a high school education.

I’m not even going to think about the level of education of the 50% of blacks who don’t finish high school in four years.  I’m not going to stoop so low as to suggest Obama is part of this norm, that he got into Harvard Law School with an 8th grade education, or taught at Columbia Law School with the equivalent of a high school degree.

What about the rest of the “low voter” universe?  Statistically, Hispanics have on average a 9th grade education.  This does not improve even after they have been in the U.S. for three generations.  Their culture does not value education.

Thus we have the Democrat base voter, the 47% who pay little or no federal taxes and who have no ambitions of ever doing so.  Politics to them is not national security or economic prosperity.  It’s free school for their kids, free health care and reproductive freedom.

Obama clearly speaks on these people’s wavelength.  They worship him.  Jamie Foxx at some black entertainment awards ceremony last fall thanked, “Obama, my God and Savior” to voluminous applause from the audience and universal acclaim from the liberal media.

The Democrats parlay every conservative proposal into a dialog for this “low information voter” as a reduction government largesse.  Obama goes one better and calls it a denial of their fundamental civil rights.  The media backs up all this with accusations of discrimination and racism.

“Vote for revenge,” Obama said.

Pity they know how to vote at all…
