I used to wonder how “politically correct” policies got started. It’s easy to see how they’re enforced. The media does that, with ruthless efficiency.
I wanted to know where that first germ of a “politically correct” idea came from, the tiny spec of sand that turns into a pearl, albeit an evil black one.
I’ve figured it all out, in the evolution of the anti-college crusade sweeping the liberal blogs and the mainstream media. The first hint thereof was just months ago.
Now it’s everywhere and growing in intensity by the hour. We hate college graduates! Just don’t do it! College will ruin your life!
Rancid journalists is where all that mindless blather started. Hack journalists “get an angle” on a story and publish it. The latest hack angle is “5 alternatives to college.”
There are infinite variations on this topic, all of them published by college educated people who are desperate to make a deadline and don’t care how they do it. They pull out a hair-brained idea that resonates with their readers like disparaging college, and it spreads like wildfire. Easy money.
In truth, people with a college education have an unemployment rate of 4% these days, the historical norm. Having a four degree equals the kind of economic stability we all want.
Employers like people with a college degree because they’re skillful learners, they have self discipline and they know how to set goals and achieve them. It doesn’t matter what your degree, every college grad learns these things, and these are by far the most important skills that every employer needs and rewards.
The ugly new mantra in the media is that 50% of all college educated young adults under age 25 are unemployed. The reason for this is clear: college is a total waste of your money.
You’re going to spend four years in college, rack up a massive student loan debt, and still be without a job. Get a life! Drop out of college! Uuuggghhh… school is gross, it’s the pits.
The truth is very much different. The unemployment rate among ALL young adults is horrific. The rate among recent college graduates is 9.4 percent; for recent high school graduates it’s 32.7 percent. The unemployment rate among high school dropouts is over 50%.
How the media can uniformly and universally say that half of all young adults are out of work is unconscionable. That the media could furthermore misquote the numbers to imply that college grads are worse off by far than those with no education at all is criminal bordering on the sociopathic.
A college degree is and will always be the best investment anybody can ever make. You will develop the skills that all employers are looking for and land jobs that are more interesting and more gratifying and with more benefits and higher wages.
College gets you on a learning roller coaster that will continue with every job you ever have. Your skill level and expertise never stop growing.
Employers often have to send new employees with just a high school diploma to “finishing school.” They don’t know how to read with understanding, their writing skills are nil, and they don’t have the math skills or the study skills to comprehend even the most basic instruction manual.
Our public education system has failed all these young people, and the media is propagating the crime with malice and forethought.
The drive by media wants everybody to ignore the horrific unemployment rate among young adults. They don’t want us to ask why so many good Americans are out of work.
It’s the economy, stupid. Obama’s economy. Obama’s policies. Washington issues 100,000 new visas a month to “high tech workers.” Washington gives 100,000 new work visas a month to illegal immigrants.
Washington’s lax border security and negligible enforcement of immigration laws keeps a steady stream of 100,000 illegal immigrants entering the country every month.
Washington’s management of the economy creates only 100,000 jobs a month – and young adults suffer the consequences. 100,000 new young adults enter the work force every month – or try to. Washington’s policies makes them compete with 300,000 foreigners for all these entry level jobs. Obamacare means it costs employers twice as much to hire new workers.
Minority set aside give preference to all the foreign workers, whether they’re legal or not. All the new taxes Obama has enacted double that price again. On top of all this, it’s far more economical to hire 3 or 4 part time workers than one full time worker. You can do the math. (The media obviously can’t.)
The main media outlets have gone so far beyond the bounds of unbiased journalistic standards as to publish garbage stories like this I-hate-college-binge that are worse than propaganda, but sheer malice.
The colleges they graduated from should revoke their degrees.
