El Presidente orders federal agents to kill top scientists, obfuscate the media, falsify documents, and to generally do everything possible to mislead and hoodwink the American people.
Take the issue of UFOs, for example…

You can tell this is an older film because the President actually has qualms about this profanity of power. His senior advisers are actually antsy about all this, too. These bad guys have a conscience. You just don’t see that any more. Hell, it’s rare to see a good guy with a nagging conscience.
Replace “The UFO at Hangar 18” with any number of other technical circumstances, and you have yourself a knee-knocking thriller. In this film, you actually FEEL the President’s angst with every one of his people who’s killed.
Presidents just don’t “feel our pain” any more. They’re above that. They have Press Secretaries to do that sort of mundane thing.
Here’s one BIG cover up requiring constant intervention by the White House. The “doubling principle” for computer chips ended ten years ago. Now they increase speed by having dual, triple, quadro chips in a core.
Same old processors, just two (or more) of them crunching half the code each. No more billion-dollar fabrication facilities to make the chips. Just ten cents worth of sand and a penny worth of silver. Same old hundred-dollar price tag, though.
About those new software upgrades you need to run all your favorite programs in the new dual, or 64-bit machines? There are (you guessed it) computer programs to rewrite all the old computer program code in parallel streams (or triple, or quadruple, or sextuple) so the program goes that much faster.
Doesn’t cost a penny to do that.
But, guess what? — they double the price. That part of the “doubling principle” is still alive and well. Often they even delete important features to make it seem like it’s so hard to do the upgrades… It’s the old “washed jeans” trick. Works every time.
Of course, it doesn’t take a whole Hangar 18 to do all this, just a little nondescript office on the back lot. It takes a hundred Hangar 18s, though, to hold all the filthy cash they make.
Until they donate it to politicians (and buy the major media outlet’s silence)… or stuff it into their billionaire CEO’s bank accounts.
